Valentine’s Day was much easier when we were little. We would just hand out Valentine’s cards with candy taped to them to everyone. Now, Valentine’s Day is stressful, whether you’re in a relationship or not.

For most, Valentine’s Day has been a day to celebrate your love for your significant other, and a day to recognize you have someone to love. But that is in the past. Now, all I see are articles on “10 reasons it’s better to be single on Valentine’s Day than in a relationship,” “Anti-Valentine’s Day parties” or “Single Awareness Day.” Why does it have to be a big deal for people to be single on Valentine’s Day?

It has long been frowned upon to be single on Valentine’s Day because you are “alone.” People should be able to celebrate this day by not worrying that they don’t have a significant other, but without ridiculing people in a happy relationship.

It works the other way, too. To some, it’s as though being in a relationship on Valentine’s Day is also frowned upon. People in relationships can’t enjoy it because nothing we see anymore is about happy relationships. As I scroll through social media, all I see are articles and videos about being single on Valentine’s Day and how it’s more important than being in a relationship. To me, it feels like nobody wants to acknowledge happy relationships anymore.

These articles also don’t want to acknowledge the happy single people, either. They only make single people feel like they should be mad about being single on Valentine’s Day. The articles and videos on social media networks make it harder for single people to be single.

Why is it frowned upon to be single, yet frowned upon to be in a relationship? Be happy whether or not you’re in a relationship. There are pros and cons to being in a relationship or being single any day out of the year and you are just going to have to face the facts.

There are some people in this world who can never see their significant other or have lost theirs. Being in a relationship doesn’t mean you’re tied down; it means you can do the things you like to do with the person you love. Being single doesn’t mean you’re alone; it means you can love all of the time you have with yourself and just wait for the right person.

So, this Valentine’s Day, don’t worry if you’re single, in a relationship.Buy yourself some chocolates, rent a fun movie or have the courage to treat yourself to a nice dinner. Whether you enjoy this holiday or not, don’t brag about it and don’t judge it. And, whether you have a date or not, just enjoy your Saturday watching the most awaited WORLD CUP match…!!!

Stay Awesome this Valentine’s Day…!!
