The much-awaited exam is scheduled on December 4,2016. The result for CAT 2016 exam is scheduled to be released during the second week of January 2017. According to the scoring system, a candidate is awarded 3 marks for the correct answer 1 mark is deducted in case of an incorrect one. Penalty on questions that are not attempted is not there. The exam would be set to a uniform difficulty throughout the duration it is held. It is also designed in a way to render any candidate incapable of scoring full marks.

CAT Normalization is usually followed to ensure fair and equal treatment to all candidates appearing for the examination appearing for the exams across different sessions and time-slots. Raw scores of students across locations and test slots are scaled up and once this scaled score is normalized across different forms, they will be normalized across different sections. The raw score is adjusted for variances which are derived from the performance of students across different forms and parameters of an equivalent nature to arrive at equated scores. Then this is used to determine a percentile for the sections and the exam as a whole to help in shortlisting candidates.

The process of normalization is an established psychometric practice followed by Indian exams of repute like GATE and many others. It involves a fair evaluation of the performance of students attempting the exam across India.

The admit card for CAT Exam will be released on October 24,2016. The exam has a reasonable time limit of 180 minutes with 60 minutes devoted to each section. The sections are- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension with a question count of 34, Data interpretation and Logical Reasoning with a count of 34 and Quantitative Aptitude with a question count of 32. From the last year, the time limit of the exam was increased by 10 mins which amounted to a blessing for the subsequent CAT aspirants. Candidates will be answering the exam in a pre-determined way and they would not have the choice to decide the order of attempting the sections.
